Disappointed. :(

Well, it happened...I fell asleep and didn't blog last night. I hadn't missed a day, until yesterday. I know it isn't a big deal, but it is to me. I was so proud of myself for writing everyday. I am not worried about the actual Slice of Life challenge, but the challenge I made to myself to write everyday.  Bummer.

My day was filled with so many good things, I spaced blogging. My mom came over to see Brynn and I got some things done while she was here. Including writing several thank you notes, my list keeps growing which is awesome! My friend Jen and her two kiddos brought us dinner last night and stayed to visit for awhile. It was really nice and dinner was delicious! They even brought Brynn some presents; headbands that Jen made (adorable) and tiny pink TOMS (LOVE THEM)! Grammy and Pepe also came over to see Brynn, and they ate dinner with us. They also took Tanner for a nice walk, which he needed. Then Mike and I had time to chat and talk about things, but I was already getting sleepy. I even told Mike that I still needed to blog, but I didn't. My first thought when I woke up this morning...I didn't blog!

The more I think about it, the more I realize it isn't a big deal at all. I have so many people that are reading my blog now to keep up with Brynn, that maybe I will continue to blog more than the month of March. I am really enjoying blogging this time. I think I will challenge myself to continue. Like many of you have mentioned, it will be a great thing for Brynn to have when she is older.

My view the other morning. So peaceful.

So Proud!

I like to think my husband is a really great guy. After all  I did marry him! I feel this way for many reasons. I won't list them all, it would take me too long. Just one of the reasons is his willingness to help others. Mike has been donating blood every 8 weeks since we lost our daughter Makenna in 2008. Makenna needed some type of blood product every day for six weeks. So you can understand the importance of blood donations from our point of view. In that time, Mike has donated three gallons of blood! That is a lot of lives he has saved! I am envious of Mike for the reason he can do something this selfless, and I can't (due to my own clotting issues). I am very thankful for him and I am sure several strangers are too. Tonight Brynn and I went along with him to his donation. He has told our story to some of the Red Cross workers, so they were eager to meet Brynn. We were both very proud as we waited for him. Way to go Mike!

Brynn slept the whole time. :) She even slept through our visit with Heidi!

Snow Day!!!

I am really struggling with what to write about for today, so I will write about the snow. I feel like I have done that too much already for the month of March, but what else can I do? Just as soon as I get my hopes up for warmer weather, it moves in the opposite direction. The snow day didn't matter too much to me today, because I am off work for the rest of the school year to stay home with Brynn. I am sure my coworkers are beginning to feel differently about snow days. I am guessing they are tired of them. No one likes to make up a snow day, especially when they are going into the month of June. :)

This was Brynn's first big snow since she was born last Tuesday. Actually last Tuesday it was snowing in the morning when we went to my doctor's appointment and then on to the hospital. However, that snow doesn't count for two reasons; one it didn't stick to the ground and two Brynn wasn't here yet.

The snow was really pretty this morning. Here are a few pictures from our house of the snow. Maybe next year Brynn can go outside and play in it. :)

It is a Yummy Way to Say....I Love You. :)

Yesterday my Grandma, Aunt, and Cousin brought dinner for Mike and me. We had leftovers from the night before, so we ate their meal tonight. Everything was wonderful as all of our meals have been so far. However, the best part was the dessert. It was actually an afternoon snack earlier today. We won't be sharing this special treat with any of our visitors. Actually, I am lucky to get any of it myself. It were up to Mike, he would keep it ALL and never share. What is this special treat? My Grandma's homemade peach pie. The ENTIRE pie crust and all is handmade. It is definitely made with love! Pie is Mike's favorite, and peach is at the top of both of our lists. My grandma always remembers that. She loves to cook and bake, but when it comes to peach pie...oh man...she is the BEST. Mike is even loved enough to get his own peach pie for his birthday each year, too. :)

There is a whole lotta love in that pie she brought yesterday. She even went to the detail of cutting out hearts and putting them on the crust of the pie. I was so surprised when I uncovered it from the foil, almost made me cry. I HAD to take a picture and show Mike. We both smiled.

The love of a grandmother is unconditional. They love you no matter what. I am lucky to have a wonderful grandma and now my daughter is lucky to have the same. She even gets a great grandma! She is lucky.

Thank you Grandma for the unconditional love, and PIE.

Our TN Visitors :)

We have had several visitors the last few days, but the visitors that came to see us today definitely drove the farthest. Mike's brother Justin, his wife Tara, and their two boys Auden and Arlo came to meet Brynn! They were planning on being here next week, but Brynn wanted them here earlier. They made it to Warsaw yesterday and headed to our house around noon today along with John and Cindy. They came bringing gifts, and lunch! YUM! They were able to spend the afternoon with us, which was really great. Brynn even hammed it up for everyone. I think Brynn's oldest cousin Auden is pretty enamored by her. I can't say I blame him. A good time was had by all. Hopefully, it won't be long before another visit. Maybe next time, there won't be threats of a snowstorm!

We also want to extend a HUGE thank you again to those that have called, text, stopped by, made meals, brought gifts, called, emailed, etc. to welcome Brynn. She is one lucky girl to have such an amazing fan club! :)

This morning after eating. VERY happy! :)

Aunt Tara and Auden getting a good look.

Happy to be chillin' with dad.

Can't forget Tanner pup. He isn't sure what to think of Brynn, but he leaves her alone.

Hmmm...

As I sit here struggling what to write about tonight, I realize that I have so many topics I could choose. The only problem, I can't settle on one. I am actually starting to feel a bit sleep deprived, which is no good. I am only into the whole parenting thing a few days, so I have a long road ahead of me. However, if you know me you know that I require adequate amounts of sleep. I am not normally a grouchy person if I don't get sleep, or at least I don't think I am. :) I am starting to feel sleepy at weird times during the day, maybe I am turning into a nocturnal animal. My husband is usually the nocturnal one, and as I sit here typing this he is falling asleep on the couch. So backwards for us! Hmmm...are the tables turning?? I guess the topic tonight: sleep.

Here is a picture of sleep at our house tonight.
Mike was falling asleep, too.

Who needs sleep when you have this sweet face to wake you up!

Home Sweet Home

We were discharged from the hospital tonight around 9 p.m. Once we knew it was almost time to go home, we became VERY anxious. I think we practically stared at the clock and waited impatiently. Our stay at Dupont Hospital was first class, which is NOT a surprise. We have yet to meet an employee that isn't caring and wonderful. Definitely a wonderful place.

Today was a bit of an emotional roller coaster. We had a few more tests that we were waiting on results for this morning. Thank goodness everything came back OK. We are fortunate that Brynn will not have to have any more tests, etc. She can now proceed with life as a newborn baby. What a relief! At the request of Brynn's doctor at Dupont, we will be going to see our family doctor tomorrow morning. It will mainly be a meet and greet. No labs needed! Another moment of pure emotion and joy tonight was actually driving out of the hospital parking lot. I literally lost it and started bawling my eyes out. (Not the first time today.) I just never thought this day would come and now that it is here, I couldn't help but let it out. Praise the Lord for our little miracle.

To update in photos tonight, Brynn had LOTS of visitors yesterday and a few still today. Here are a few of the people that came to see us. I told Mike we need to start writing Thank You cards tomorrow, to stay ahead of the game. We already have quite a few to write! Maybe I can work on that when I don't feel so sleep deprived....oh wait...from what I hear I won't get that feeling of full sleep again!

A BIG thank you to everyone who came to see us the last few days! For family and friends that have already brought meals, took care of Tanner, visited, prayed, called, text, went to the store, helped fix/work on our broken furnace (our dads), cuddled our little one, brought flowers, presents, caffeinated drinks, hugs, and so much more! We love you all! Enjoy the pictures.

A Little More About Our New Addition

We (OK, Mike) didn't blog too much yesterday. We were exhausted and literally over the moon with excitement! We are definitely still ecstatic today, and will continue to be that way for the rest of our lives. Brynn Marlena is truly our miracle baby and we can't thank God and all of the people that have been praying for us enough. We are so very lucky and fortunate. We are so in love with her and we can't wait to show her to the world. Visitors have been coming throughout the day and will continue to do so I am sure. Several will be here yet this evening. :) I am going to keep the blog a bit short again tonight, because I am only able to type between guests!

Here are a few more pictures to share. I am sure there will be more to come.

Just born! Thanks to our nurse for taking this picture.

She is here!!!

I am kind of cheating on this post because Mike is typing while I talk. Our little gal decided to arrive today. Meet Brynn Marlena Van Laeken. She weighed 6#14oz and was 19.5inches long. We are thrilled!!! Baby and mom are both doing well. Both are beautiful if I(mike) might add. Time to rest. A longer post will be added tomorrow.

A Day to Relax, Don't Mind If I Do!

It is March, right? Last year at this time we had already had weather in the 80's! Not that I want it to be that warm just yet, but it would be nice for temps in the 50's or even 60's. I was surprised to find this morning that we had some icy and snowy conditions. I had already decided I wasn't going to head into work today, because I wasn't feeling the greatest. (I think my body is telling me to relax, and prepare for the upcoming big day.) I was even more surprised to learn we had a two-hour delay only to cancel a few hours later. While I don't want to make it up, it was nice we closed. I can use my sub plans I made for today, again tomorrow. It was nice to be home all day today relaxing, I have moved from the couch to the recliner multiple times. It has been a great day to stay in, since it is so gloomy outside anyway.

I am just ready for some sunshine and warm weather. I can't believe I am blogging about a "snow day" on March 18th. I just blogged about being ready for Spring last week, however we aren't going to have a day over 40 degrees this week! I guess the groundhog was wrong! :)

Where you can find me today. :)

Cobbler

On my trip to the grocery store the other week, I had a craving for Rice Krispie Treats and peach cobbler. Very random for me. I am not a huge sweet eater in general. I would rather eat cheese than a brownie, so I am blaming pregnancy on the cravings for sweets. I decided to make the Rice Krispie Treats and cobbler on the same day. The cobbler was to take to dinner at a friend's house, but the Rice Krispies were for us to eat selfishly at home. :) Both of the desserts were delicious. I really liked the new recipe I used for the cobbler. I think my friends and Mike liked it, too. There isn't much left in the pan.

This One is for the Birds...

Mike and I both like to watch birds, we aren't birders or anything that serious. We just like to watch. We have a lot of different birds that like to stay in our trees. They also enjoy making use of the lake and channel. This winter we put a bird-feeder out by our picture window, to see what kinds of birds would stop by. We have had several different kinds! They are fun to watch and they eat the birdseed really quickly. I recently bought some more bird food. He is a unique little feeder. We put him outside this morning and the birds have been at the feeder all day! :) It won't take them very long to eat every last seed.

Tanner was interested in what was sitting on the counter.

They will save the dried apricots for last.

Anticipation of Spring...

I am ready for Spring to arrive for many reasons, the sunshine, warmer weather, green grass, flowers blooming, the arrival of our daughter, and an overall better mood. It is taking a long time for Winter to get out of here this year. I am sure I am not alone in that feeling. Do we always feel this way? Or is it just this year? Spring is a time to start new everything is blooming and the sun is out. I can't wait for the days when I don't have to worry about grabbing my coat, gloves, and scarf. I also can't wait to have days where I don't have to wear socks and shoes.

We are so close to Spring! We have had a few days were we were teased with warmer weather. Once Spring arrives, then we are looking forward to Summer. I can't wait for that either. I especially like Summer because that means I can spend time at my parent's pool. Those are the best days, swimming in the pool and spending time with family.

Unfortunately, looking at the forecast for this week...it is going to be cold for a little bit longer. However, I noticed outside the other day, that our tulips are starting to make their appearance. That is always a positive sign to me. All of the snow just melted around here and the tulips are getting ready!

Come on Spring!!!

Some of our tulips beginning to peek through the dirt and mulch.

Food Again...:)

On Thursday nights we go over to my parents for dinner. My mom has Thursday off and she watches my nephew, Carter and my niece, Kenlee so she makes dinner for all of us. My brother and sister-in-law come over, too. Tonight was yummy! One of my favorites! Wendy (my sis-in-law) brought Nelson's Chicken and potatoes. So delicious! It is typically a summertime treat for us, and many in our area. It is certainly a reminder that summer isn't too far away. I am looking forward to the warmer weather and more opportunities for Nelsons. :)

I will try to quit slicing about food! Thanks Wendy for bringing dinner! :)

The leftover chicken and potatoes were sent home with us!
